William Plumer – “Psalms”

Banner of Truth has just released “Psalms” by William Plumer.  This book is worth its weight in gold.  First published in 1867, Banner has had several editions, dating back to 1975.  The Christian community is blessed to have this book reprinted again.  Here are a few excerpts from his introduction:

The Psalms are expressions of holy feeling, which can be understood by those only, who have become alive to such feeling.

Here was always something well suited to every stage of religious experience and to every kind and degree of affliction.

The Psalter is a little Bible, and the summary of the Old Testament.  –Luther

The Psalms are fitted to all persons and ages, to all manner of employments, and to all conditions and circumstances of life…

How much comfort, light, and strength have the Psalms vet to my fainting soul.  I often not only missed the way, but lost the very trace of it.  One word from the Psalms was a sunbeam to me….I learned to esteem myself happy in being permitted to endure suffering.

I find words which seem to issue from the soul of the ages, and which penetrate even to the heart of all generations.

About Maureen Stohlmeyer

Grateful to have been married to my wonderful husband Michael for nearly 35 years who is now with the Lord, I would like to share from writers from the past who have strengthened our faith and walk with Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer. His walk with God was deeply enriched by the writings of authors from the past and I dedicate this blog to him and to them.
