Biblical Faith

“Biblical faith is a reliant trust in the invisible Author of all good (Heb. 11:27). This trust sets the mind upon the things that are above, not on earthly things (Col. 3:2; 2 Cor. 4:16-18). The faith that is commended in Hebrews 11 is not a mere belief in God’s existence, or an acknowledgement of His Word and promises, but a practical counting of Him faithful (Heb. 11:11), with a trust so profound no trial can shake it (11:35), and so absolute that it survives the loss of even its own pledge (11:17)….Faith, to sum up, subjectively is thus the going out of the heart from itself and resting on God for all good. The biblical revelation is directed to the needs of sinful man; and therefore this reliance on God necessarily becomes trust in Him for the helpless sinner’s fundamental needs–forgiveness and mercy in trouble.” –Benjamin B. Warfield “Works of Benjamin B. Warfield” Vol. 2, p. 501-502 (from Michael Stohlmeyer’s Notes on Works of Benjamin B. Warfield)

About Maureen Stohlmeyer

Grateful to have been married to my wonderful husband Michael for nearly 35 years who is now with the Lord, I would like to share from writers from the past who have strengthened our faith and walk with Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer. His walk with God was deeply enriched by the writings of authors from the past and I dedicate this blog to him and to them.
