“Contentment with what we have does not depend upon any measure, great or small, of the things themselves, but on the presence of God with us (Hebrews 13:5). Achievements in life cannot give satisfaction. It arises solely from trust in and satisfaction with God alone. Love of riches is opposed to this. Contentment in God is a remedy for apprehension of future want, and despondency under suffering the things men can do to us. Contentment removes covetousness, envy, and contempt for others. The promise which follows in verse 5 makes this trust reasonable.” –John Owen “Hebrews” Vol. 7 p. 412-413 (as summarized by Michael Stohlmeyer)
Grateful to have been married to my wonderful husband Michael for nearly 35 years who is now with the Lord, I would like to share from writers from the past who have strengthened our faith and walk with Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer. His walk with God was deeply enriched by the writings of authors from the past and I dedicate this blog to him and to them.
